Chasing Fireflies

I remember catching fireflies
As if I was seizing gems of bliss;
I would peek through fingers, watch them glow,
Dreaming they, like fairies, grant a wish.

I still chase those shooting stars today;
But it seems my running is in vain:
Every time I see one in my reach
She escapes, and freedom she retains.

But if I would bide my time in faith,
I am sure an angel near would see,
And would bid a firefly to come
Share its beacon of delight with me.
