A Prayer for Those Left Behind

Be with them
When a lump in the throat chokes the tears
So they cannot even cry—

Be with them
When the tears pour forth in a deluge
So they cannot even speak—

Be with them
When they need to speak their minds
Because they cannot bear the silence—

Be with them
When silence crashes on their lonely hearts
Like a wave upon the sand;
When it seems to overwhelm them
Take them in your arms.
