Thanksgiving Day

It's Thanksgiving Day, what can I say ~
A day to remember, for family, all the way.
We think of feasts, and friends from years before.
We think of our Lord, giving us food and more ...

Old turkey, down by the barn, trying to hide in the brush.
We see friend turkey and tell all to, "Shush!"
He knows something is up, looking all about.
Kids coming closer; all ready to burst into a shout.

Pumpkins, in the field, just waiting for us to take.
Get down the spices. A pie, like mom's, we'll make.
Each of our mom's was the "best cook" ever to be
Until, along down the way, came you and me.

Poor old turkey must know it's his time to go.
I thought I saw him outside a'crying, awhile ago.
Pretty leaves falling of orange, yellow. and red ~
Indian corn, all in a stack, ready to shuck ~ ahead ...

So all the cooking will be ready Thanksgiving Day.
When the kids are full, they'll go outside to play.
I hope every home has that cinnamon smell;
So wonderfully delicious ~ cold tea in the well.

Papa says 'thanks for the blessing' on our holiday feast;
From vegetables, turkey and pies, on to bread with yeast.
Little babe crawls across the floor; hopes to eat.
Thank you. Lord, for baby’s sweet little feet.
