The Legend Of The

Candy Cane

Whether hanging from the
boughs of the Christmas
tree or peeking out of
each stocking, peppermint
candy canes say Christmas
in a merry and meaningful
way.

It's said that the first
candy cane was created by
a candy maker who wanted
to remind everyone of the
meaning of Christmas.

He chose white to represent
the virgin birth and the
purity of Jesus Christ. Then
he added red stripes to
represent the blood Jesus
shed on the cross so we might
have eternal life.

The shape of the candy cane
has two meanings. Right side up,
it is reminiscent of a shepherd's staff,
reminding us that Jesus is the
Good Shepherd.

Turned the other way, the candy
cane forms the letter "J" for
Jesus, bringing sweetly to mind
that He is the real reason we
celebrate Christmas.
