Fatherhood Prayer

As I listened to her sleepy sigh,
I felt so alive and proud.
It was still early.

But, she would be a mother come spring.
I heard the sound of geese flying south
And I prayed,

"Oh, God, I'm mindful of the sparrow,
That if it drops a feather to the ground,
You are aware.

Look on me, oh Lord,
Prepare me in the ways of fatherhood
And bless this one I chose.

Make her a great mother.
Give her patience and wisdom,
And give us long life.

Oh Lord , who is man that thy are mindful of him?
Oh Mighty One, walk ever near me
And bless this child in all ways."
