The Sea Of Forgetfulness

Often I've heard and even said,
"I can forgive, but never forget"
Things said and done in ignorance or contempt,
even when the offender expresses regret.

How grateful I am that I'm not judged
By the same measure I've used to keep score.
Forgetting is harder than forgiving, I know.
For, memories cause wounds to the core.

What good is there in forgiving someone,
If you never forget the transgression?
Forgiveness is the conscious choice we make,
While forgetting is the loving expression.

But, shame or pain can hold us back
From releasing those in whom we judge.
Toss those feelings into the sea of forgetfulness.
Live each day without harboring a grudge.

When others throw darts or curves in our path,
Try to remember that they're human, too.
Some may say that revenge is sweet.
Yet, how can we decide what they're due?

Much better it is to leave 'well enough' alone
And go on living your life without regret.
Bless, instead of curse, anyone who's hurt you.
Soon you'll not only forgive you'll also forget.
