Moses In The Desert

Moses was born and Israelite.
Then, a decree was sent out, as a plan
By the Egyptian king, named Pharaoh,
To smite every male child in the land.

So, Moses' mother was frantic
To save her newborn child.
She weaved a basket and sealed it with pitch,
And took Moses down to the Nile.

Then, along came Pharaoh's daughter;
A Princess to the Egyptian throne.
She had Moses pulled from the river
And she decided to take him home.

Though Moses grew up an Egyptian,
He was a Hebrew by heart, all the while.
He watched as his people were beaten as slaves,
And some died beside this river, called Nile.

Then, one day God called Moses
To lead his people home,
Back to the land of Canaan;
Where his father's before him had gone.

God had to send ten plagues
Upon Egypt, with His almighty hand,
Before Moses could free his people
And lead them to their promised land.

Then, Moses set out for the desert,
With his brother Aaron along,
While God supplied their every need.
Still, they had to be strong.

So, Moses climbed up to Mt. Sinai,
To talk face to face with the Lord.
He stayed on the mountain for forty days,
While his people grew restless and bored.

Then, the Lord gave Moses two tablets of stone,
With ten laws for the Hebrews to see.
Moses headed back to the Israelite camp,
As God's laws he was anxious to read.

The people begged Aaron to build them a god,
One they could touch of their own.
So, he took their gold jewelry, shaped it into a calf,
As the Egyptians had done for so long.

When Moses came down from Mt. Sinai
And saw what his people had done,
He grew so fierce and angry,
That he destroyed God's laws, one by one.

Then, Moses begged His forgiveness,
For this calf was an ungodly sin.
So then, God sent him back to the mountain
To receive His Commandments again.

The were the ten commandments that God gave to Moses:

1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me;
2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain;
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy;
5. Honor they father and thy mother;
6. Thou shalt not kill;
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery;
8. Thou shalt not steal;
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against they neighbor;
10. Thou shalt not covet.
