King Solomon's Wisdom

Solomon was the son of David,
One of God's wisest Kings,
And, when he prayed to his Father, above,
He didn't ask for material things.

He never prayed for silver or gold,
Or beautiful things for his eyes to behold.
He only sought wisdom and knowledge, as well,
So he could be a just ruler ~ for his people of Israel.

One day, two harlots (who had bore a son)
Brought the baby before the King's throne ~
So he could judge between which mother
Was the true and rightful one.

One woman overlaid on her son, in their bed,
And awoke the next morning to find he was dead.
So, she took her dead son and laid him beside
The other woman's bosom ~ of the son still alive.

Then, she stole the live son, to claim as her own.
Now, the decision was left up to Solomon's throne.
So, the King, in his wisdom, said, "Bring me a sword,"
Using the knowledge he'd gain from the Lord.

Then, Solomon said, "Divide the living child in two."
By using God's judgment, he knew what to do.
The dead son's mother said this decision is fine,
"Divide up the child, so he's neither hers nor mine."

But, the rightful son's mother,
Whose bowels ached inside,
Said, "Just give the living child to her"
And "please, do not divide."

So, the King, in his wisdom,
Said, "I wont slay the son."
I'll give him to his mother,
Now that I know the rightful one."
