Little Andy
~Hey, Mr. God,
We're Movin' to Your House.~
Hi there, Mr. God.
How was your day?
Are you done lightin' the stars
And puttin' the sun away?
Now that daddy is pastor, you talk a lot.
So, I s'pose ya 'ready know,
Daddy says we're gonna move
To the church house where we go.
I guess we will live
In your house, with you.
I hope we don't get in your way and stuff.
Will Jesus live with us, too?
I s'pose we can't talk loud or anything,
'Cause you're old and we might make ya nervous.
But, you know, little sis
Will live there, with us.
She's too little to un'erstand bein' 'spectful.
and, sometimes, she cries in the night.
But, momma gets up and rocks her back to sleep.
Will that be alright?
Daddy says we, each, got our own room.
So, grandma and little sis won't hafta share,
And we gotta extra room
For visitors that come there.
Momma and daddy are goin' a'morrow,
To clean and mop.
Momma says it needs good cleanin'
From the bottom to the top.
Mr. God, how long have ya lived there?
You have a lot of houses, daddy said.
But, I heard my Sunday School teacher say
That Jesus didn't even have a bed.
Will ya tell him
He can have mine?
I gotta sleepin' bag and
I like sleepin' on the floor, just fine.
Daddy told me, "We gotta a'spect
God's house, now Andy.
It makes him sad when he sees chewed gum
And wrappers, from someone's candy.
It's a bad thing to dis'spect' it,
Like when they don't wipe their feet
Or write in the Bibles and song books.
Its 'portant to God how pretty his house looks."
I see daddy, after church,
Pickin' papers from the floor
And he looks so sad, and wished
They don't do that any more.
I think, Mr. God,
What ya need is a sign
To tell them to stop it.
Most are big a'nuff to read.
I will try to pick up my clothes
And all my toys.
Sometimes, thought, Mr. God,
It's hard to 'member, for us little boys.
Daddy will take good care of your house.
So, thanks for askin' us to live with you.
Momma will keep us kids pretty clean
And pick up after grandma, too.
You sure got a real big house
And you got a'nuff for all of us.
If Jesus' mom wants, she can stay with little sis.
But, I want to share my room with Jesus.
I sure do love you, Mr. God.
Tell Jesus and His mom,
Little Andy said 'Hi,'
Good night.
